2010 Legacies Now – Measuring Up Accessibility Fund

Measuring Up helps BC communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities and for the whole community.

The Measuring Up Accessibility and Inclusion Fund supports community projects aiming to improve how people with disabilities can actively participate in, and contribute to, their communities.

The 10 by 10 Employment Challenge is a provincial challenge issued to all municipalities to increase the number of people with disabilities employed in their communities by 10% by 2010. Increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities is essential to building accessible and inclusive communities, and Measuring Up can assist communities in achieving this goal. Endorsement of the challenge is a requirement for all communities who receive a grant through the Measuring Up Fund.

The Disability Supports for Employment Fund (DSEF) supports new approaches to employment for people with disabilities that may complement or augment existing programs in the community. The Fund provides support for organizations throughout BC who are working to increase employment opportunities and ultimately the rate of employment for persons with disabilities in their communities.

However projects must demonstrate that they do not duplicate or replicate existing government-funded programs, supports and services for persons with disabilities.
